The Challenge

Uponor was looking for a world-class appliance interface that would be easy to use without over-simplifying the many features their system had to offer. The interactive display had to be intuitive with icons that readily described button functions: on/off/dormant modes and other panel readings.

The Cyberscribe Solution

Drawing from its extended network, Vancouver technical writing company Cyberscribe Solutions managed the work of several usability and design specialists to develop user personas and scenarios, analyze heuristics (intuitive usage) and conduct structured usability testing. Using these expert inputs, Cyberscribe graphically rendered complex and abstract concepts into recognizable, intuitive icons. A well-managed design process allowed Uponor to demonstrate a working model of the system at ASHRAE, the leading global trade show for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning industry, months before the planned product launch. The interface design and interaction were very well received by industry specialists for both technical and consumer usability.

The Client

When Uponor contracted Delta Controls to develop software for the Climate Control Network, a total-solution environmental control system for upscale residential markets, Delta recommended Cyberscribe’s usability team to design the appliance interface and user interaction from the ground up.
